The most striking upgrade over its predecessor is the engine. Delivering impressive power, the engine in the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R range boasts a host of upgrades – most notably a significant jump in power and torque. Improvements to the electronics and pre-muffler also ensure it meets the most stringent emissions regulations. This, combined with a 15,000 km service interval and low fuel consumption, makes it ready for the long haul. KTM’s ride-by-wire system electronically translates the rider’s throttle commands into optimal throttle positions for the specific riding situation.
Enhanced for 2022, the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R boasts dual 320mm diameter brake discs with 4-piston radial mounted calipers at the front and a 260mm diameter brake disc actuated by a twin-piston floating caliper at the rear, providing excellent feedback and stopping power. A new stainless steel brake hose on the rear also helps combat brake fade on long downhill sections. The rear brake features new insulated pistons in the caliper and insulating plates between the pads and pistons for greater heat resistance. Also, the brake hose fitting on the rear caliper is made of stainless steel to reduce heat in the brake hose.

The 6-speed sequential gearbox shifts faster thanks to shorter shift lever travel, lighter spring action, and quicker Quickshifter technology, while 4th, 5th, and 6th gears are strengthened for increased reliability. Quickshifter – optional on the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R – allows clutchless upshifts and downshifts throughout the rev range. Stainless steel and ready for adventure. The entire design is focused on mass centralization, which also improves the ground clearance of the exhaust system.
The KTM 890 ADVENTURE R has easy access to the air filter for cleaning and maintenance, even when you are at the most remote location during your ride. The airbox is under the seat with the air intake at the motorcycle’s rear. This means that in addition to easy access to the air filter, the seat and tank can be kept low, and the motorcycle can be made narrower where it matters: the leg area. It also allowed for better placement of electronics to maintain a centralized mass.

Both models have an 889 cc parallel-twin engine that produces 103 horsepower at 100 Nm. KTM says the crankshaft has 20 percent more rotating mass, and the overall effect of the engineering around the engine means more stable and consistent power, noticeable in the torque available at low revs. The extra mass also means extra cornering stability for long throttle rides.
